Yeah that is weird. Sometimes it takes something like that to give them an excuse to get out of their comfort zone. They may have wanted to date but never would have unless they can say it was due to some external reason.
People date under some pretty strange circumstances but whether it will last or not will only be told by time.

You just have to try to be happy for them. They are both your friends so you should want them to be happy. You will always feel a little jealous but that thought should help you realize that it isn't necessary.
