Havent seen him since we split 16 years ago (apart from once about 6 years ago at his and his girlfriends house for a b b q, i used to know his girlfriend before they got together.Anyway, we are gonna meet up in a couple of weeks for a drink just to catch up. My little bro has been out with him a few times over the years, calls him his bro. He's since split from his girlfriend about a yr ago.The problem ive got is, my ex hubby, seems to think we never got divorced! I thought we did and i definately paid for the courts to do it, although i havent got a decree absolute, and he reckons he doesnt! I thought i might of mislaid it, but we are talking about 13 years ago we were supposed to be divorced so i dont remember and he definately said he never recieved one so assumed we were still married!Does anyone know how you can find something like that out? Where do you go or call?Any help would be great. I dont know where to even start to find out!C xxxxx

hlskitten is verified as being by the original poster of the questionThats what i dont remember. I remember applying for it, i paid for it. I had waited 2 years for the seperation thing because he didnt want to sign it, thats what the rules were then. And i guess with loads having happened in the last 13 yrs i dont remember much about it now and deffo dont have any documents. So even if we are divorced, atleast its best for me to get an absolute document i guess.C xxxx

Is ok now.
My mate said the same as you, to ring the court. I just have and they said you need to write in with details because they dont usually keep records of stuff pre 1998, but if we are divorced they will find a copy of the absolute and i can get one for a pound. So thats alright. Ive just gotta try and remember the year i filed for it.
I'm pretty sure we are. Maybe he moved at the time and didnt receive it in the post or something.
Thanks.

Yikes! I would think you would have made sure of all this when you were going through it! I am in the US, so I cant speak definitively, but you should be able to check with the courts. All these documents would be filed with the courts. There should be an area for domestic relations. Here in the US our courts are set up by counties. Take a trip over to your local courthouse and ask around. Domestic relations, recorders office, docket office or maybe vital statistics could help you. If they dont have what you need they should at least be able to direct you to where to find what you need. Then get a certified copy and put it somewhere safe!
