Question - (29 October 2008) 1 Answers - (Newest, 23 January 2009)
A female United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

Hello everyone. I have broken up with my now ex-boyfriend of 8 months because of him trying to get back with a ex. So as a result of that, I do not want him living with me anymore. He is not on my lease, he does pay half rent and utilities. I told him he has 1 month,2 AT the most to get out. He has a temper and is a asshole and when I told him this he kind of laughed it off as if he wasn't going anywhere.

I wanted to kick him out right then and there but he said there are laws about being a resident if you have mail coming to a address. I did find that out but I do have the right to give him 30 days to get out of my house especially since he is not on the lease.

He does not seem like he is actively looking either. I don't speak to him around the house, i stay in the bedroom he stays in the livingroom, its very uncomfortable.I've even thought about lying to him telling him I'm ending my lease and and moving out on the 1st of december just so he can get the process going. How do I get this man out of my house!

A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (23 January 2009):

Give him written notice that he has to be out in 30 days time. Take legal advice and check if this is legally binding in your state - Your landlord may know all the rules so you could try asking him or the people at the company you rent from.

After that 30 days then change the locks and call the police to have him removed.

Good Luck!! xx
