Hello. I'm a divorced dad with three great kids. Well my oldest is 17 and she has just started dating a 23 year old man. She has known him for a long time and he's ok. The thing is I feel really happy for her but I feel really sad as well and I don't know why. Is this normal?

Duncan agony auntThanks all That really helps. I want to make a real effort to spend time with her but I don't want to feel I'm imposing.

Now I will think about it differently.

ilovebowsandcherries agony auntyou are probably feeling like this because you know she's not a little girl anymore and you now know that she isn't going to rely on you for things she'll rely on her boyfriend a bit more and other things like that.

but not to worry because she will always be your little girl at heart and she knows that and she will come to you as and when she needs you.

hope this helps.

pepper27 agony auntHi Hunny

Do you feel like your loosing your daughter? Your happy for her but at the same time this sadness is maybe the fact that she is growing up and doesnt appear to need you as she did..But she does and always will hun..Ive got 3 and slowly they have gone on to do there own things, It does leave a little gap as you have been hands on dad for so long..Its quite normal I feel to feel a little sadness but it should pass love..TAKE CARE WITH LOTS OF LOVE MANDY XXXXXXXX
