A female Australia age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Okay so I'm 16 and I've just recently started masturbating. The problem is though, sometimes while I'm doing it, my brother or my dad will pop into my head. I don't imagine them doing anything or even want to think of them; I know its wrong and don't even see them in that way but they just pop into my head randomly for some reason.

I just want to know, is this normal? Is there something wrong with me? Do i need professional help?

A reader, anonymous, writes (30 January 2010):

It has nothing to do with your personality. It as a play of your brain, like a dream in your sleep. Nothing to be ashamed of.

It can get worse, more abhorrent and awful and be accompanied by other symptoms of a mental imbalance. In fact, my own life has been ruined with it thirty years age.

Do not hezitate in going to experienced psychiatrist. (Not psychologist, but the psychiatrist). They tell me such a thing is called "depersonalization" by proffesionals. I am sure it can be cured and should be treated or, at least, prevented from getting worse.

Another advice. Do not tell it anybody, even close friends or relatives. People will not understand you correctly.

LallaZine agony auntDont worry about it. You dont need professional help, just look at all the positive feedback you've got from everyone else on here. :-)

It's probably a subconcious thing, you cant help what pops into your head and it certainly doesn't mean anything. Try thinking about someone that you really like...maybe a guy at school or someone you've got a crush on. That might make you feel better. Just relax and dont worry about it....oh and put a lock on the door lol.

DevilishAngel agony auntsometimes that happens, cause you could be wondering what they would say if they walked in on you, I'm almost 23(a girl) and when I was your age and just starting out, my mother would pop into my head and it was because I wonder what she would say if she walked in on me. for all you know, yours could be happening for the same reason.
