A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

My best friend since kindergarden doesnt like my fiance. I've tried and tried to have them get along. She always finds some reason not to like something he does or says. He is one of the most sweetest guys I have ever dated. I dont know if I should quit trying. Maybe that'd be best. Every time she wants to hang out I am always with my fiance. Im not just gunna leave him to go with her but I always feel bad for not hanging out with her.

I dont know what to do.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (13 August 2010):

Well, surely you can find some free time to hang out with your best friend. You don't have to spend ALL of your time with your fiance. If they don't get along well, then stop trying to get them to hang out together. I personally hate hanging out with my best friends boyfriend. I just don't see the point. I barely know the guy and I don't know what to talk about with him and the atmosphere is always awkward and kinda formal. I can't talk to her freely like I do when we are alone. So, just make sure you find some time for both of them separately.

Gabrielle Stoker agony auntIt's not unusual for friends to feel jealous when one of them finds a signifiant other. Try to give her some time as well; though eventually she should adjust to the changed circumstances over time. It's really unlikely to be a genuine dislike for him so much as a resentment that he takes you away from her.
