writes:So my best friend likes this guy at school, and when ever they catch each other's eye, she said that they hold each others gaze for what seems like a pretty long time. But whenever I catch the guy I like's eye, if he's already looking at me he looks away really fast, and if I'm looking at him and then he looks at me I look away really fast too. What is the difference here? Just personality?

Yeah that's personality to me. I tend to look away quickly as well because i'm shy about them catching me. At the same time I think it's awkward and a bit rude to stare with someone you don't know. That's just me, don't worry about it. Talk to the guy if you want to progress things.
