My best friend seemed surprised that a guy likes me, and not her.

At work, there is a guy that I have been crushing on- we talk once in a while, but we don't talk as much because we're in different departments. I told my friend about him and she knows I like him. She happens to knows his older sister and hung out with them before with another group of people. So one day she came to visit me at work and he was working too. Well, she decided to go over there and talk to him. So she did and later on she told me, "I think he likes you." But she said it like she was in shock or couldn't believe it. She then started saying weird stuff like, "Well, I knew him first!" and stuff like that. Now, my bff has been getting boyfriends since she was practically in diapers! She has guys dropping like flies for her, so why does it bother her that 1 guy isn't going after her? Why can't she just let me get one guy? Was she surprised that the guy actually liked me or that she wasn't the center of attention and he wasn't into her?

A female reader, pinktopaz United States +, writes (16 November 2009):

Your friend is just insecure. Have you ever seen that movie American Beauty and the girl that tells people she is a model swears that a guy is gay if he doesn't even look at her and she would lie about screwing all sorts of guys? Truth was that she was just extremely insecure and a virgin. I'm not saying your friend lies, but regardless if she gets guys all the time or not, if one guy that maybe she was attracted to wasn't into her, it really hurts her ego. She's just jealous and she'll get over it. Don't let it bother you.
