Well, i think that you should tell him yourself. But first ! make sure theres signs that he likes you too because it MIGHT go wierd and awkward situations will happen. I'm dating my close friend and i am happy (: i made the first move but i noticed and my cousin too that it seemed like he liked me.
Doing things like this are risky but if he's a good friend i'm sure that you guys can over come it if he doesnt like you like you like him. But if he does than before you go out ask him if he thinks things will be different if you guys ever do break up..if you would just incase to see what might happen. you know to be on the safe side (:
