I think the problem with me was I went on the diet lost 13 pounds and then found my prince charming and thought well I've bagged a guy now I don't need to make the effort.

But I want to get down to a size 12 and I'm determine because I have no confidence in myself and feel so flabby.

So I'll start eating healthy and that monday first of the month and hopefully I'll reach my target by september as I am very fat!

Work hard. Yes finding a friend to diet is excellent another way to really burn that fat is to weight lift a little try not to use machines for lifting the results will be better, also eat protein like chicken it has thermo calories, for example let's say you eat 100calories of chicken it will take 30% of those calories from that chicken you ate to digest it. my favorite is jump in the pool if you have a gym that has 1 swim, it'll work more muscles than running toning and burning that fat from your body and it will increase you metabolism. I know this from experience and if you try this I promise you will show results but to stay focused again I'm saying go with a friend or music is great as well, if your going to the gym you'll probably find people as well to work out with.

I wish you the best of luck.

Sincerely

Hi,

I have lost 42 pounds since July 09 (From 225 pounds to 183 pounds). I go to gym daily, initially I started exercising slowly. I calculated my Basal Metabolic Rate (amount of calories you need to eat to sustain yourself, google this term), so my basal metabolic rate was 2400 calories / day to maintain my current weight, so I started burning 650 calories/ hour (7 days a week) on elliptical trainer and eating around 1200 calories / day. My body needed 2400 calories to maintain weight but I was burning 650 and eating 1200, this created deficit of 2400 + 650 -1200 = 1850 calories / day. 3000 calories is approximately equal to 1 pound of weight so with deficit of 1850 calories / day, I started loosing weight at the rate of 3 pounds / week, I continued this exercising on elliptical trainer for 3 months, after first month I did not loose much weight, then I googled and found that you need to change exercises because your body gets used to exercise in 6 weeks, i.e. burns less calories after 1 and a half month. Then I increased the intensity of elliptical trainers resistance gradually to highest levels then for next 3 months I was loosing 2 pounds/ week, I would burn around 1300 calories/hour on an average. On christmas day 2009, I was 197 pounds, then I started exercising on Stairmaster (The best cardio machine ever) and I would burn around 800 calories / hour at medium resistance+ eating around 1200 calories / day, soon I hope to workout on stairmaster at highest resistance possible. Today is Feb 26 and my current weight is 183 pounds. It is difficult but it can be done. Start slowly and do it regularly, remember you need to make a habit of going to gym daily, according to some research it takes 21 days of effort to make something a habit. If you feel like giving up then think how wonderful you will feel when you loose weight motivate yourself, on weekends I would go out with friends and eat out (but in moderation). My biggest motivation is my pure love for my best friend, recently she got engaged to someone else who I feel is not good for her, but it is her choice, I can not do anything about this, she is the biggest inspiration to me. I had previous love interests, they would suggest me to go to gym and exercise, but my motivation lasted only 2-3 days, but this time I always felt motivated. Recently I told her how I feel about her and now she is avoiding me, I miss her friendship, I hope things will get better between us, anyways you need a very strong motivation, then you will be successful. Good luck with your weight loss, if you have any questions then shoot them at me.

You are "yoyoing". The trick is when you have the motivation to make lifestyle changes, not to go on a crash diet. Then when the motivation dries up you are still swimming, playing sport, having only healthy food in the house, etc.

The best start to weight loss is to take up a low impact aerobic activity for thirty minutes a day. Walking, swimming and cycling are common options. When you start off, pick two and do one every day. Join clubs, as fixed appointments and fun teams assist motivation. Look for clubs with goals similar to yours (eg, the cycling group might be called the Fat Boys, the swimming group will be Masters not competitive). Buy magazines and read websites about your chosen activities.

You might choose to use a personal trainer once a week. There's a lot of motivation from knowing that someone has a critical eye on your progress.

As for diet, it comes down to quality eating. Best to leap in the deep end there. One weekend sit down and write a healthy menu for a week -- breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, supper every day. The aim here is quality of nutrition, don't reduce quantities to low levels (that reduction will happen naturally once the results of exercise kick in).

Go shopping for food for the entire week -- buying only the food on the menu. Purge the house of everything not healthy -- including reward food and other excuses. Aside from the menu food there should only be bulk supplies for healthy menus in future weeks (eg: opened bags of rice, pasta, etc).

This is not the week you give up coffee or smoking (again, exercise will force that issue in the future). This is the week you give up soft drinks.

A reader, anonymous, writes (27 February 2010):

Eat only healthy food on your breaks at work, as it cuts 8 hours of junk food out of your day. Eat only on your lunch or coffee break, but not right on the job, where it is possible to do so in some areas of work. Tell yourself you'll only drink soda pop or coffee when you eat junk food, or not at all.. Tell yourself water is the only healthy drink and stick to it, the rest of the day. Start out by eating junk food only once a day, when you're the most relaxed and tempted to indulge. Most people find it to be after work, to destress, or in the evening when they're settled on the couch. The rest of the day make sure you try never to cheat. You're going to eventually have to gather the strength to get rid of that once a day cheating, and move it to once a week, but not on any day off. If you so much as try a morsal of junk food on a day off, you WILL fuck up the rest of the week for sure, so don't! Eating only healthy food at work on the first step is actually way easier than you think, because you're busy working most of the eight hours, and don't really care what food you're stuffing your face with as long as you're stuffing your face with SOMETHING to destress from the job and avoid hunger at the same time. You'll feel satisfied and motivated as well at the end of your shift when you look back and tell yourself 8 hours actually went by without screwing up at all. Now the second step, which is moving the junk food from once a day to once a week, will seem a little harder. All you have to do though is remind yourself how well and easy the work days went without eating shit food, and you'll feel a sense of confidence when it comes to moving the cheating to once a week. Remember though, it's not once a week all day, but once a day, once a week...get it? Once you get that far, you'll feel there's obviously no reason to screw up once a week either, so you'll just quit or possibly forget which day you cheated last..so you'll just stop eating junk. No matter which step you're on, if you screw up, don't worry, just pack another healthy lunch, or just wait another week, kinda thing..you can't just say screw it and quit, because it's too easy to do this weening, to just stop for nothing.

Another important thing to remember is to worry more about exercising on a regular basis than eating right. This may sound backwards or unorthodox, since you need healthy food to aid in exercise. However, as soon as you feel happy when you exercise, you'll start to gain a better perspective about eating, and alot more motivation to eat right, when you know how effective exercise is and how good it feels. You'll gain a new respect and drive to eat healthy each day. Do both cardio in different ways, and resistance exercise (or weight lifting type workouts). Don't feel you have to be a pro at it because you don't.. just do whichever type of exercise you think you would like the most. Later on, you can get more technical with all the workout tips. I have so many tips and tricks that it would take forever to list them, and same goes for the foods, but start simple if you're trying to get in a healthier shape. Don't ever think of it as dieting or you'll quit. Don't starve yourself of calories either, especially if you're exercising or you'll run out of energy fast. Don't take away all fats, either..you need fat for energy, and some types of fat are good to consume.. I could go on forever, but the main simple things to remember when starting to eat right is breads are never good, unless they are real whole wheat, not enriched(read ingredients..they try to trick you on the front), try to avoid pastas, eat only brown rice, use stevia(tiny amounts) or agave nector in place of refined sugar, never aspartame or the other harmful sweetners.. Eat meat, vegetables and fruits, drink lots of water, take your vitamins and exercise daily, but remember never to exercise continually without getting enough sleep. Eat the whole egg, not just the whites, as most of the nutrition is actually in the yoke, and the more orange the yoke the healthier(roaming chickens). There are so many technical tips I could go on forever, so just pm me if you have any technical eating or workout questions and I'll be more than happy to help. Keep it simple and good luck, and no matter how many times you fuck up, don't quit.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (27 February 2010):

Well I had struggled with my weight when I was in my early teens and a few times in college. I'm thin again and have been for several years. But initially my motivation to lose weight was simply to look good. Knowing that I could step out and feel more confident because I was thinner and prob looked better. You are at an age where whatever you do as a physical/weight goal will come with ease. Don't take that for granted! Once you hit your late 20s onwards your metabolism slows down making it harder to lose weight and tone up. Since you are at a peak age of health and a great at getting RESULTS now is the time to make the most of it. Life is short! Do it now before you know it you are in yyour 30s! Also you never know who might come along in the next few months. Maybe your prince charming will pop into your life this year and you certainly want to look your best and feel your healthiest and most confident. So don't procrastinate, just do it. Keeping a healthy weight and exercising will improve your skin, complexion, immunity, get rid of flab, make you more energetic and more focused at school. There's lots of benefits. Don't give up!

IHateWomanBeaters agony auntSeriously, the only motivation you need is your own health.

Cut out the bad stuff and replace it with equally tasty good stuff. There is a LOT of great food out there that is beyond healthy.

You shouldn't live for other people or whatever. Live for yourself.

More of those "motivations" will come your way if you have the confidence to do things for yourself, regardless of your size.

The Realist agony auntFind a friend to go to the gym with. They will keep you going or find motivating music. After that the results should also do there part in motivation.

Best of luck.
