If you fancy this girl, surely it's worth persuing!? Anbd You don't need to have a girlfriend just because everyone else does. It's better that you have a girlfriend because you fancy her than just to make a social statement.

 It doesn't matter that you don't have a girlfriend. It's probably only you that cares. You should only go out with someone provided that you want you and like them, not for the sake of it. If you do actually like this girl, then yeah, go ahead and find out how she feels about you. It's important though that you're with someone for the right reasons and that they treat you right.
