To be honest I think sex is sex. It's just that your having sex with someone you also have non-sexual feelings about and the feeling is mutual. I think if you have to define making love it can also be when your sexually attracted to things other than her body, for example you go out together and have an amazing time and you feel so close and connected with that person that the best way to express how wonderful you feel with that person is through sex.

If there was none of those then its just having sex. I don't think you always need to be making love in the relationship some times you can just have sex for the physical enjoyment without being emotionally being in the mood to bond and think.
