A reader, anonymous, writes (17 June 2014):

Stop shaving and the lumps will go away. The hair is there for a reason, one of which is to protect the fragile skin and the vaginal ph.

Honeypie agony auntIt does sound like ingrown hairs. They SUCK in that area, which is why I don't shave, I get it waxed.

Hair removal cream is also a good option if you rather not go get waxed ( I don't recommend trying to wax yourself down below).

If these bumps are NOT where you normally have hair growth.. they can be HPV so in that case get checked out by your doctor.

A female reader, Ciar Canada +, writes (16 June 2014):

Ciar agony auntAssuming there has been sexual activity, I'd say it was ingrown hairs. A nuisance but far from life threatening.

Google the proper procedure for shaving that area for some tips on how to avoid them. You could also purchase something like 'Bikini Zone' or PFB lotion. The latter is better because it comes in roll on form and lasts longer.

And Google ingrown hairs and see if that might be what you have.

Obviously to be absolutely certain you can check with a doctor.

A male reader, CMMP United States +, writes (16 June 2014):

Ingrown hair. Just shave with the grain the first pass, then against the grain to get it smooth. At least this is what I have to do on my neck. Sometimes I even go with the grain, the sideways, THEN against the grain, depending on sensitivity.

It's nothing to worry about.
