It's a joke that prostitutes use in Thailand that's become a worldwide saying. The saying became famous from a hollywood movie.

A female reader, Abella United States +, writes (5 February 2011):

Abella agony auntHave you ever visited Thailand? Maybe you heard someone say it when you were on holidays there? Because that is where I first heard that expression.

On a visit there I was shocked when a woman (in the hotel lift - international hotel - and I was holding my husband's hand at the time too) Despite all this woman went up close to my husband

and said it to his face twice. She didn't

even take any notice that I was present. My husband gave her a curt, 'no'. Then she mentioned her price for what she was offering, but the lift doors opened. 'saved by the bell' as my husband put it at the time.

We had a little laugh but I was so shocked that a paid for sex working woman would proposition a man for sex so blatantly in a hotel lift, when he was clearly not inviting such attention. And using that remark you mentioned in your post.

I don't think I would ever use LuaLt expression in polite company as you can see it is an expression used by a paid for sex working woman in some parts of the world.

Whereas lol= laugh out loud is OK

And

ROFL=rolling on floor laughing etc.
