hi i'm 15, whats wrong with me!?! I hate going round in a big group of friends and i go really quiet when i go down town and just hang out wiv a big group of people even if they are all my friends.

But the wierd thing is i am great at talking to just 1 or 2 people. i love going to town wiv just 1 or 2 of my friends but hate it going wiv loads! i can easily keep conversation going wiv 1 or 2 people in it but when it comes to a whole group of people i dont feel i have anything to say. so i just dont say anything so people think im a really quiet person but im not.

why am i like this and what can i do about it?

A female reader, seenitdoneit +, writes (17 August 2006):

I am exactly the same. My secret fear is that I will say something and people will ignore me - something less likely to happen when there are less of you. When I am in a big group, I try to engage the person next to me in one on one conversation. If this is not possible, I sit and people watch. Just because we are not the life and soul of the party does not mean we are not liked. People talk to me one to one because they think I am a good listener. As you get older you are more accepting of who you are and see the benefits of having your own individual personality. We are all different - thank goodness.
