hi, i was just wondering, erm which is the best foundation to use, liquid or powder? I want to get that 'airburshed' look, i have never tried liquid before and powder has a reputation just to go orange. But is liquid foundation bad for your skin or something? I would love some recommendations if you have any? thank you for your time! :) X

k_c100 agony auntI would alaways go for liquid, it gives a much more even coverage and covers any blemishes and imperfections. Try not to go for a dark colour, always go for one that looks a little too pale. It is better to have a paler foundation and use a little bronzer than go for a dark foundation and look orange!

With liquid foundation there are a few ways to apply it and you will need to work out what is best for you. You can use your fingers, use a cosmetics sponge (they sell them in boots) or a specific foundatation brush. I like the brush because it doesnt make a mess on your hands (like using your fingers) and it doesnt absorb like it does onto a sponge, and it gives a nice finish. But these brushes can be expensive if you buy a proper one - mine is from Benefit and was about £18.

Try not to buy a cheap foundation either - it really is worth spending a little more! L'Oreal are always good, so are max factor. If you have a bit more money then a foundation you might like is Benefit's some kind a gorgeous. This is a semi-liquid foundation that when you apply it (with the sponge provided) gives a powder feel. It is pretty amazing - gives you super smooth skin that is really even and perfectly covered. Like the best of a foundation and a liquid! Max Factor also do a similar one, I think it is called Miracle Touch, this is a bit cheaper (but not as good) as the Benefit one.

Always moisturise before putting on any make-up, this will give a better base and will stop you getting wrinkles when you are older! No7 at boots do a great range that will last you ages (you only need a small amount otherwise your face will be greasy). Many people make the mitake of not moisturising because they have oily skin, but this actually makes it worse. If you do have oily skin or spots buy a moisturiser designed for oily skin, there are loads out there!

When you start using foundation you will need to consider using bronzer or blusher (blusher is the best out of the 2). Foundation is a base for make-up and needs more putting on top of it to make you look good! Foundation alone will make you look slightly pale and washed out because your whole face will be one colour, and no natural freckles or blush will come through! So a subtle amount of blusher on the apples of your cheeks (smile and apply it to the bits of your cheek that stick out) will make you look healthier and more awake!

One last thing, when applying foundation always remember to blend it into your neck! The worst thing is to see a girl with a orange face and white neck! Using a brush or sponge take a dab of the foundation and apply it to your chin and jaw line, then blend downawards onto your neck. Dont forget your hairline too and be careful around the eyebrows, foundation stuck in your brows is not a good look! Use a cotton bud or tissue to wipe any excess from your brows!

I hope this helps!

searbear agony auntI use liquid and then powder over the top.. but make sure you moisterise your face first. The liquid foundation i use is Loreal-the lightest one which is perfect for my skin(i'm very pale) and i think i use Loreal face powder, again the lightest one which is a tad darker than my skin but barely noticeable. I then put a darker shade of face powder on my cheeks and i have to say it works and does give that airbrushed effect.

aphexinfinite agony auntlook no one wants the airbrushed look because we all know its fake and if you want to be a fake person then go ahead but in honesty my best policy is less make up the better. men dont want girls dressed to the nines looking like a dolly. i use a elisabeth arden they have a nice combination of powder and liquid its a nice paste which they usually have one to suit colour. its easy no fuss 5 dots a little rub and done gives you your same colour and if you have any spots covers nicely. their are many brands out their so really you would have to go to a shop takes some wipes and try a little on your skin next to your thumb that the best place for a colour check. dont go higher than your normal shade or you will see lines from were the foundation starts and your true skin starts. as for eye shadow dont go for vibrant colours a little soft colour is nicer than seeing bright green lol. we forget those girls in those magazines wouldnt go out normally like that so why should we think we can. hopes this helps aphex xx
