You're probably having trouble finding your vaginal opening. It's in between where you urinate and your butt hole. The best way to find it is to go exploring. Feel around with your fingers. If you still can't find it try spreading your labia (vagina lips) and looking down there with a mirror.
For your first time it would probably be best to start out with a tampon with a plastic applicator. They slide in a lot smoother than card board does.
Once you find your vaginal opening, tilt the tampon at a slight angle towards your back. (make sure you have some fluid, like blood, in your vagina otherwise it might hurt on the way in - if you aren't very bloody yet just put some water on the outside of the tampon) Then just push gently. You should push it all the way until your fingers (which should be on the gripper) touch your opening. Then you just push it in like the directions say.
Hope this helped! Good Luck!

Hi. ok depending on the brand of tampon is how easy this will be.. i use Playtex sport.
It has a plastic applicator that is easier to slide in. then you just push the end with the string and you're done. Sit on the toilet with your legs apart.. or even try standing up.. try different positions and they may be more comfortable.

Um...some suggestions that we got when we were in Girl Scouts and had our lesson about sanitary supplies (seriously...I still remember this):
*prop your leg up on the bathtub. I'm not sure why but this helps.
*KY jelly on the applicator of the tampon will help it slide in a little easier
Hope this helps. Good luck!!
