I've never had sex. Could I still be pregnant?

Hello. I'm a 17-year old female with a slightly odd problem (at least, i think it is..)

Basically, I haven't menstruated since around July-ish (maybe... i can scarcely remember; but I did have two periods this summer).

I'm about 110 lb, and I'm showing absolutely no sign of pregnancy other than occasional nausea when I eat. I've never gotten sick, but sometimes if I eat too fast or too much, I'll temporarily feel nauseated.

Catch 22: I've never had sex.

I've done small sexual things on occasion, but I can't think of a time when I was exposed to any semen that could result in pregnancy. But that doubt still has me scared, because I'm not precisely sure.

I'm slightly freaked out, and not sure what to think. Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be, or what course of action I should take?

harshbutfair agony auntYou should visit your doctor, as soon as you can. If you are underweight you may not be menstruating and this can have long-term affects on your helath, in particular bone density (you may have low bone density and at much greater risk of osteoperosis as you mature).

Again, please visit your doctor. It can be resolved by maintaining a normal body fat range for a female (i.e. gaining weight). So easily fixed, but you need to take action sooner rather than later :)

Hello; I posted this question annonymously, so I wasn't sure how to write a response. This is the original writer. :)

But anyway. Yes, I've considered the fact that I may be underweight. I've always been thinny-thin, weighing 105/110 lbs. at 5/4, at 17. I've been skinny my entire life, though, so I'm not sure how this could be affecting my menstrual cycle now.

Then again, I've also always had irregular periods, and I've never taken any kind of birth control -- basically because I've never had sex.

(A bit malfunctioning, eh?)

I had basically eliminated the possibility of pregnancy, since I doubt I'm a vessel for the second virgin-birthed coming of Christ or anything... But I had really wanted to know if there was some kind of physical ailment or cist that might cause me to cease menstruating altogether.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'll definitely see a gynocologist before I start self-diagnosing too much. :)

If anyone has anymore advice or support, however, I'd greatly appreciate it; I'm still bugging about it, a little.

I think you need to see a doctor - your periods should be regular by now and if they are not then something may have gone wrong... it could be a cist or something that is messing with your hormone balence.

From what you say, pregnancy probably isn't a worry but that only means there is some other reason for them to be this strange.

Good Luck!! xx

If your BMI (body/mass/index) is too low you will stop menstruating. Are you underweight or very athletic?

hello, because uve only done few sexual things and never been intimate with another man you can't be pregnant, the only way you could be pregnant is if sexual intercourse has taken place which in your case it hasn't and if you have only done foreplay then that still won't affect you. I would advise you to go and see your doctor though just to check out your symptons you are having and to tell them about your irregular periods im sure you will be fine and i hope this information eases your worries

A reader, anonymous, writes (8 September 2008):

A lot depends on exactly what the small sexual things you've done are, but if there was no semen involved you can't possibly be pregnant.

Go and get checked out by your doctor. He or she should be able to find out if there's a problem with your health which could account for the symptoms you've described.
