Oh, forgot to say, don't get too disappointed if he doesn't manage to take you. At the moment, this is what he is planning, but sometimes plans don't work. You know that's what he wants to do in his heart. I suppose the UK chocks, cakes, restaurants, cheese and garlic is ok.. we got lots of stuff over here, you can still get him a good present anyway, just try to think of what the French would do.

Don't try and compare, gifts are not about competition... didn't you mum tell you something about being gracious, not loving all presents equally big and small, and not worrying about you get or don't get.See if you can save a little extra money. Take the money to France with you. France has tons of nice stuff that the UK doesn't have, and there are lots of things to do, lots of things to EAT (mmmm... they got cheese, garlic, they got olive oil that costs a fortune, and the cakes and sweets, ooooooo... oh lala) They also have so many fine wines (the reds, they have whites, they have fine liqueurs) The French eat and drink well... sighWhere was I...oh yea... Take the money to France, you'll need it. Buy him something over there, and he can choose it himself. That will be a present he'll remember.PS... did I tell you about the food, the cakes and chocolate... bet I forgot to tell you about the great restaurants... everywhere is great restaurants, cheap ones, expensive ones.... oh lalaOh yea... They are also a number one place for fashion (base of many expensive labels) and they only make the most greatest perfumes and aftershaves in the world. They got good noses the French, so that's why the chocolate, cakes, wine and food, (and them other stuff) is some of the best in the world.Sigh.... Have fun (oh, I forgot the champagne, did I tell you about the champagnes, and the rose wines... sigh)PPS: I forgot to mention the antique markets, were you can pick up some fancy and unique stuff for cheap. Or the discount you will get at duty free, which means things are cheaper than the UK. Then there is the Art work, cheap and fancy, like the UK, they got artists who will paint you right there in the street.OK, I stop now.. now where's me passport, I think I'll come with you. :)

Hi there, maybe you could book in at a local spa before / after you go. They do wonderful treatments for couples and you could both relax and enjoy. These spa places also have good eatery facilities and something to look forward to when you return, or before you go.

First, remember that gifts are to be given because you like to give them, and NOT because you are guilted to by something or because you expect something in return.
With that in mind, you can get him a box of chocolates if you want. Or a tie. Or a card and a kiss. Don't get him something based on whatever he gets you. I think the reason you've heard about the gift is not so you can up the gift, but pack your suitcase and prepare, as some ladies hate to be surprised with this sort of thing.
Maybe get him a camera to take sightseeing pictures with, or a bottle of champagne to celebrate with? Or a French Maid costume, haha, to match the trip.
