 As Fatherly Advice said, i like the idea of making some sort of food/sweets for him or how about a homemade cake? if you're not that good at baking then what about a voucher for a shop he likes? :)

 What does he like to do? Maybe take him out for fun - lunch and disc golf or a more spendy idea is dinner and a movie. That way you get to spend time together and build your new relationship.
