To be perfectly honest, I don't think you can ever get over feelings like that. That relationship will have been fundamental to the development of your adult character and a major part of your life. Could you maybe accept that you'll never forget about him or her? Strangely, I found this more use than trying to forget.
If you're not married or with anyone, you could try meeting up and see how it goes. Who knows???!

But if you have both moved on then I think its just your old memories giving you that warm feeling inside. we all have that feeling when we think back to our first love, I was lucky I got back together with mine later in life and we're married with a Son. But dont be fooled into thinking it was the fairytale relationship I had Imagined it would.
Most of the time we only remember the good bits and when reality kicks in its not as dreamy as we thought it would be.
