writes: I am having a problem. It started when I just got to America in January. Frequently, I experience itchy skin in the cold and sometimes when I am on my own and not in the cold. I also have a lot of pimples on my forehead until i started using a good face washer which reduced it geatly. I would like to know if there is a name for this skin problem because i don't have itching blisters and the doctor said it might be an allergy. Please I will appreciate your help Reply to this Question Share |

It could be eczema. Seeing as you moved I guess you've been eating different foods. Alone where they come from or how they were produced can make a difference.
I have it so I know the pain of it. For me it breaks out when I eat certain foods, when I get really hot or when it's really cold.
You may never have had that problem before but that doesn't mean that it can't start later in life. Do any of your family members suffer from it?
It may not be eczema, but itchy skin is often a sign of it. Also, is your skin dry? This can also be another sign of it.
Definitely keep a note of what you're eating. Try to stick to only a couple of types of food for about 2-3 days, see what your skin is like in that time. Than start eating something else after that time. Keep doing that for a while to see if your skin changes in any way.
Btw, I personally find that my skin gets worse when I eat a lot of products that have nuts in them.

Which state are you in? It can be the change of climate, pollution, allergies.
I would listen to the doctor. And if you want to know WHAT exactly you are allergic to, you can have tests done.

Pimples and itchy skin doesn't have to come from the same cause. Always listen to your doctor first. But in my experience, the itchyness sounds a bit like dry skin. During winter the air is dryer and if you have dry skin you will get patches of extra dryness that will go red and itch. However, if your doctor says allergies, get tested for allergies first!
PS. dry skin is treated best by avoiding exposure to water (so take short showers), and use lots of moisturizer! And don't itch...

Listen to your doctor. The doctor is right. Watch your diet carefully, and watch the clothes you wear and such. Maybe you can try and figure out what it is.
