Is Using A Dildo If You're A Virgin Safe?

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I'm saving it for the right guy. Anyway, I want something "up there" but I'm pretty sure I haven't lost my hymen as I've barely even fingered myself and I feel really tight because I am petite. I can get myself to orgasm without penetration though.

I want to buy a small dildo from Ann Summers or something but I'm scared I might tear my hymen accidentally. Ofc it's not the same thing as actually doing it with a guy but I don't want the pain and the blood

Is it fine to use a dildo if you're a virgin?

Mods please edit if TMI..

Honeypie agony auntAny insertion can tear the hymen. Be it a finger, dildo or a tampon. You can also tear it from riding a bike, riding a horse and other strenuous exercises. You might not even have noticed any bleeding from it. It can be VERY minor.

Virginity is not about the hymen, it's about a man PENETRATING a woman. After all a male virgin have no hymen and I'm sure most of them have experienced self-pleasing.

On that note though, if you want one for the sexual pleasure or orgasms, you are better off with an external vibrator. As the clitoris is really where it's at for female orgasms.

CindyCares agony auntOf course you can tear your hymen using a dildo, the hymen is not hidden somewhere all the way up, it's just behind your vaginal orifice;and it is thin and fragile . Unless you are born with what is called a " complacent " hymen, a very elastic one that just yields to penetration expanding around the penetrating object without tearing. It's not that rare , if I remember correctly about 20% of women , something like that,- have this kind of hymen. Plus there are also a few woman who are born without an hymen. But if you are not among them, and you want to keep your hymen intact, playing with a dildo is not the best idea.

Although I'd like to stress that even if you should damage your hymen by playing with sex toys, you'd still be a virgin anyway ! A virgin is a woman who has never had intercourse , not one who has an unbroken hymen.

Thanks @ivyblue

I am not worried about stretching but will get some lubricant. So there's a chance I might tear my hymen then? I definitely havent, I am aware you can tear it through sports (I do a lot of sports) but would have noticed if i had

I think your question is perfectly human and a lot of people think this way but on an honest note i think you should just drop Anne Summers because the real thing is nothing like the artificial thing and you are not in a competition to count orgasms. You can literally wait until you meet the man if you want because you after the whole package and thats what you will get.

Ivyblue agony auntSweetie you can tear your hymen riding a bike or riding a horse but it is possible using a dildo. Using enough lubricant can help minimise the possibility and lessen any pain. Speaking of pain and blood loss, pain varies and blood loss is a bit like spotting, but again might be a bit heavier for others and remember you are in control here.
