I never really got a full blown period before she raised the dose. I missed my wednesday pill and took it thrusday morning then took thrusdays pill that night (I take my pill at night.) Then i took my saturday pill 5 hours later than i usually do. And I got a very heavy period Sunday morning. My boyfriend and i figured i should see if i get a period next month before talking to my doctor. Im not supposed to be getting my period, which is why my doctor gave me a higher dose.Basically my question is, Did i get my period because i missed the pill like i had, or did i get my period because im getting used to a different dose... or should i be calling my doctor sooner then later?Thank you!-Alice

Periods are caused by an an unferitlised egg that has implanted in the uterus breaking away.In pill-takers the bleeding on the pill-free break is caused by withdrawal from the hormones caused in the pill. The bleeding may occur at any time the hormone levels dip below a certain level. So I think it's most likely because you missed a pill.Check the patient information leaflet about what to do when you miss a pill if you haven't already done so. For combined-oral- contraceptives, the advice is normally to take the missed pill as soon as you remember (which you did) but for the mini-pill (those that contain oestrogen only) the advice is different and you won't be protected from pregnancy. I don't know which type of pill you're onIf the bleeding you experienced was very heavy - far heavier that any other period you've had then you should see a doctor.

Hi,
I'm not qualified to answer your question fully, however I will offer some advice. Its very important to take the pill EXACTLY as prescribed. Missing the pill, if it is used for contraceptive purposes, can lower its effectiveness. Its also important to bear in mind that conception can occur even if sex doesn't take place on the day you miss it. The fact you took three doses in a matter of hours probably wont do you much good.
