He is dating a 14 year old girl. The mom knows his age and knows where they are at all times, they are only allowed to see each other in a public setting and have never been alone! They are both Christian and have no sexual intentions in this relationship, I sometimes joke around with him and he gives me this evil look when I bring up sex so I know he's serious. He even punched me.Anyway, he fears kissing this girl on the lips because he thinks he could be charged with statutory rape. Should he have these fears or can he kiss her? (not oh em ge full tongue) just a peck when they greet or say goodbye.Remember, is it legal in Florida (FL)?

I think I'm more concerned about a 41-50 year old man hanging around a teenage boy.

My best advice would be to tell your young friend that waiting on sex until marriage is a very good idea. There are far too many diesease out there and unwanted pregnancies. Not to let it embarrass him that he is waiting and that you commend his efforts. The kiss on the lips is romantic and sweet however it can lead to other things but not always. I would assure him that it is ok as long as he sticks to his moral values. However encourage him to wait until he feels more comfortable in doing so, preferably until she is a year or so older. She is rather young and impressionable. He is older and seems wise. It sounds like he is guided by morals and a good clean consience. Tell him his first kisses can wait and that holding her hand is can show his admiration and affections just as well. Sticking to a kiss on her cheek or blowing one may seem somewhat juvenile but if you do it in public it feels special just the same. *SmilesThey are never alone so this is good. Being chaperoned at her age is a wonderful idea. It is showing respect on both their parts. I commend them for that! Watiing for Sex I definantly commend them for that! Waiting for a kiss, it should be special, that first real kiss. Waiting will only make it more so. Reassure him that when the time is right and she is older it will be a signifcant time in their relationship. Something they will remember for a very long time........Perhaps thru Eternity.......God bless,Blue_Angel^(**)^

A
reader, anonymous, writes (4 November 2008): I don't know if it's legal, but it definitely is sensible. Good on his mum, she's got more sense than you (41-50) and him at 18years old. Why dose he want to date a little girl of 14, why doesn't he find a young adult woman, who is legal and the same age as him. His mum is very sensible, and is keeping her son from going to jail. He may say he doesn't want sex, then why dose he want kisses then. Children and young adults should not date, shouldn't be kissing and shouldn't be boyfriend and girlfriend. In the UK, we'd be thinking he's a pedophile, and likes to have sex with children, and we'd think he's very, very strange. Be glad his mother allows them to be together, she must be very nervous about the whole situation. When he was 14, there is no way she'd be comfortable with him dating a 18year old, and she wouldn't be comfortable if she had a daughter who was in this situation.
If they are in love, and it has nothing to do with sex, well they don't need to kiss, they don't need privacy and there is no reason for them to be alone. He's mum is bloody right, and if he doesn't like it, tell him to go to the police and find out what the have to say. I bet his bloody ass lands him in jail if he dose this. GOOD ON HIS MUM, I THINK SHE'S GREAT...
