I am thinking of discussing long-distance with him seriously, yet will there be a point if there is no end goal? I doubt I Will move anytime soon within the next 3 years. Maybe after, yes. But I also doubt there could be any reason for him to come back to this country. We're both university students, 20 (me) and 22. Is there any point in trying for long- distance? Or is there a way we can 'promise' ourselves to each other for one day in the eventual future?

SVC has got it spot on. Besides, at your young ages you are both still developing, maturing, becoming adults. 3 years is a long time when you are young and by the end of that 3 years you will almost certainly be two very different people with very different needs, desires and outlooks.

LDRs have a very short life span if there is no end in sight.
IF you will be apart for 3 years or more how often will you see each other, if less than once a month or so then I would say not to bother.... it's very hard to maintain an LDR when you can't actually even be together.
