He sounds genuine, Perhaps he just noticed that you guys haven't been talking much lately or remembered something- obviously something made him see that he misses your company and so he felt the need to apologise. Dont over think these little sorts of things that guys do :)

reader, anonymous, writes (11 June 2013): Simple because he may have felt he snobbed you that day and felt the need to apologise for that in case you thought he was being rude. Surely you've had days where you just passed people out and weren't in the mood to socialize and then felt the need to apologise to people for that? That's all it was.
It's not a sign of interest if that's what you're wondering OP. He was just being polite.
