Is there a chance that I might be pregnant?

Question - (9 December 2009) 3 Answers - (Newest, 9 December 2009)
A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Ever since i thought i was pregnant, my periods have become more irregular... and i actually skipped one last month! My mother keeps questioning me about pregnancy, of which i've been denying because the last time i had intercourse was back in July and i haven't gained weight or have a bump, so surely i cannot be pregnant?

At one point i had almost every pregnancy symptom there was (when i'd become obsessed with the idea) but then my period eventually started and i came to my senses and assumed that i wasn't pregnant, so then the symptoms vanished and i figured this was all in my head.

Is there even the tiniest chance i could be pregnant? if there is, i'll buy a pregnancy test before i see my doctor about changes in my menstrual cycle.

I'm so worried about the idea, I don't want to disappoint my family and i'm not with the guy anymore because it didn't work out. Not to mention the abuse i've done to my body; drinking, eating unhealthily, passive smoking, x-rays!

Best go to the doctor and get tested. Then you'll know for sure.

PeanutButter agony auntThere is every chance you might be pregnant, yes. Not all pregnancy's are the same and not every woman can tell that they are without blood work.

You haven't taken a pregnancy test yet but this is one of the very first things you should have done when you skipped a period - I would advise going and getting one and taking the test today. If it comes back negative at this stage then the likelihood of the test being accurate is good.

If you're still concerned after you take the test, see your doctor, as you probably should with the irregular cycles anyway.

You may have unwittingly made your body think that it was pregnant, which is called a phantom pregnancy, which can occur due to stress or the over active imagination thinking that you are pregnant and looking for signs.

As for the bleeding - I had what looked like period bleeding for months before it stopped all together. Some bleeding is not good if you are pregnant but isn't uncommon either if it is a small amount of "spotting".

Take the test TODAY, put your mind at ease one way or the other.

Good luck
