We had the sex the day before her period and she said she got her period but she is on the pill can she still be pregnant?

If she's on the pill there is still a slight chance she could be pregnant, especially if she does not take it perfectly.
Having your period (on the pill it's not quite a period, it's a withdrawal bleed") is usually a good sign she's not pregnant, but pregnant women do occasionally spot. There is also something called 'implantation bleeding' which occurs when the zygote implants itself in the uterus, which can be mistake for a light period.
However. There's no way to know for sure until she takes a test. It sounds really unlikely (if she's been taking her pills right), and probably more likely she has the flu. Either way, a doctor's visit is probably in order.
also....waiting for kids is a REALLY good idea when you're 16 or 17. If you're so worried about her getting pregnant, you should also use condoms! Condoms plus pill pretty much ensures no babies, unless you have the worst luck and some extremely good swimmers.
