A female United States age 26-29, anonymous writes:

My best friend has a boyfriend. They've been going out for a month and a half to two months. I've noticed for a while now that shes kind of obsessive over him. One day, he didn't text her back for a while and she freaked out and thought he might've died or he was cheating on her. And if he doesn't text her back quickly, she gets worried and has like spaz's, even her mom tells her she needs to calm down and pay more attention to her friends that her phone. Im wondering if shes just infatuated with him? Also, her previous boyfriend was a real jerk and she didnt get over him for a while even though he was spreading really bad rumors about her and being really mean. Im wondering if she just needs someone to be nice to her and stuff? What are your opinions?

A female reader, anonymous, writes (12 May 2010):

Hello,

Immaturity plays a part in this. She needs to realize he has a life to, and whens he's available he will text her.

I had a bf in his late 30's that would behave this way. Text constantly and wonder why I wouldn't always respond back quickly. I explained I'm working, busy and when I had free time I'd text back. However, his behaviour became even more intense and I ended things.

So needless to say sometimes people are too clingy and others begin to feel smothered and lose interest. If she continues to behave this way he may get tired of it.
