Is my partner taking me for a fool?

Question - (24 June 2008) 1 Answers - (Newest, 24 June 2008)
A male United Kingdom age 51-59, anonymous writes:

Hi i've been with my partner for 8 years, we have one daughter aged 6. I recently asked my partner to marry me and she declined. Some time later after reading an article in the paper i became aware that i had no parental responsibility, because of my daughters date of birth and the fact i'm not married. I've accepted my partners wish to not get married, but she has also refused to sign a responsibility order. Her response is a kind of screwed up face, and she says 'what do you want one of those for'?

Am i being taken for a fool? It looks that way from where i stand.
