Is my high sex drive normal for a 47 year old male?

Question - (9 April 2012) 11 Answers - (Newest, 10 April 2012)
A male United States age 51-59, anonymous writes:

I'm a 47 year old male and I've been seeing the same girl for about four years now. It seems as if my sex drive is only increasing in intensity, although I have always had a high sex drive. Is this normal for a man my age?

We have sex about 2 - 4 times per week, but even when we're not having sex I think about it a lot and I often "take care of myself" in order to deal with my urges. I am very fit(weight lifting, middle distance running) with low body fat. Are most men my age experiencing an unabated level of high sex drive as well? When I'm having sex I can stay erect and deliver for about 20+ minutes, no problem.

@anonymous make reader.....I wouldn't say that it interferes with my daily life. but what does concern me is my desire to still want to sleep with other women as well; I thought that this drive would have diminished by now in your mid forties, especially with a steady partner. I'm constantly flirting back and forth with women I meet in all kinds of venues and places.

A male reader, anonymous, writes (10 April 2012):

I'm a couple years older than you, and I had wanted to have sex every day up until about a year ago. Then my drive fell off quite a bit. I don't know for sure why it fell off, I don't think my body changed suddenly. I'd guess it was mostly because I decided I didn't want to spend so much time and energy thinking about it, etc.

It seems to me that a lot of the loss of sex drive that is typically attributed to age is actually in part due to circumstances, loss of physical fitness, etc.

In terms of whether or not you're "normal", I'd guess you fall well within the range of what would be considered normal. But, if thinking about sex constantly is interfering with other things in your life, you might want to consider learning to stop thinking about it so much.

So_Very_Confused agony auntIt’s normal for YOU… that’s all that matters.

Sadly for most women our drives increase dramatically and we end up with men with decreasing drives. Your lady is lucky.

Although I know for a fact my grandfather was very sexually active with my grandmother well into their 80s (MY GENES YAY!)

The real question is does you partner have an orgasm 2-4 times a week? Sounds pretty normal for a healthy male.

Danielepew agony auntOK. So, at 47, you still haven't found a single wrinkle on your face, a pain here and there, that has told you, without room for doubt, that you'll die, eventually, but will be losing faculties along the way, and the ability to sustain an erection will be lost sooner or later?

If you just want to brag, well, this is the wrong place for it. We only have your word for that, so...

@Danielpew.....please work on your reading comprehension skills. I am not faking a high sex but am rather bemused why my sex drive is the same as it was back when I was 25.

Honeypie agony auntDoes your GF complain, if not I really wouldn't worry.

2-4 per week doesn't seem extreme for someone in their 40's.
