writes: Is it wrong to "suck-up" to your teachers? I have complemented teachers about many things, their hair, jewllery and cloths. I usually only do it to teacher that know me and I get on well with. It is custom in primary to give presents to your teachers. I always did. In secondary this is not the case. I gave me favourite teacher that I got on exceptionally well with a present as it was the end of the school year and she was also leaving to have a baby. A couple of weeks ago, I said to my new favourite teacher that I liked her top, she replied saying "thank-you sweet-heart", it was obvious that it had made her day. I told my friends about this. They didn't feel the same way. They told me I always sucked up to the teachers and I was always "bezzie mates" with the teachers, and I was a suck-up.Admitedly I do have good relationships with nearly all of my teachers, especially good with some. I find this does help with my learning. What they said really hurt me, I am not angry or upset at my friends, but I can't stop speculating.Does anyone else get on well with their teachers. What do you guys think about suck-ups and do you think I am a suck-up. Please help!! Xx

hi never forget 'its nice to be nice!' there is nothing wrong with giving someone a genuine compliment about things that are not too personal, i don't think that admiring someone's clothes or hair is too much really. you won't do yourself any favours by alienating yourself from the other pupils though! i think an easy life in school is had by blending in with the rest of the kids a bit more. don't single yourself out as being a 'suck up' - it just isn't worth it.think before you speak and maybe tone this behaviour down a bit if you think you may be saying too much. the teachers will like you as long as you are courteous, hard working and willing to learn, they will appreciate those things a lot more than compliments AND it will ensure you get good gradesxx
