If you're having to snoop, or feel you have to snoop, then there are already problems in the relationship. It is wrong to look at another person's things, because it does show insecurity and a lack of trust.
That said, the fact is that snooping sometimes works. And it had here, because you've found out that he's a cheat. So, I agree with Quiet-Echo. Dump him and move on.
