Based on personal experience I can tell you that some girls cry the first time they have sex. So do some guys.
My wife and I were both 23 when we exchanged virginity (I gave her mine, and received hers in return). When the intercourse ended we were both sobbing. For her, it started as a reaction to the discomfort but then emotions took over. For me it was an emotional reaction.
For the record, you can read about it in the thread "I'm a virgin and worried about my wedding night...", at [ http://www.dearcupid.org/question/im-a-virgin-and-worried-about-my-wedding.html ]. (Scroll down the thread to find my post.) Even though it was lousy sex, it was still very significant and meaningful to us!

Maybe these girls you heard are very emotional, sensative girls and they felt so overwhelmed with emotion after losing their precious gift that it brought them to tears. Maybe they realized after they had lost it, that they wished that had waited and weren't sure they made the right decision.
But for a girl who consented and did what she felt was ok/good to do and doesn't have a vagina the size of a crumb so that it would feel like giving birth, i don't see why they would cry.
