writes: Is it time to downsize due to illness? My husband just got diagnosed with a chronic and deblitating disease. His diagnosis came a month after moving into a bigger house. We have two young children. Since our finances are now affected (not to the point of bankruptcy, but very heavy), I am thinking we should plan to eventually move into the smaller town house we own and is currently rented out. I feel like it might be small for us but I am having a hard time accepting it. I of course want to put my family first, so health is number one. I just don't know how to handle this. If we wait a few years to move into our town home, it will be paid off by then and we can be mortgage free. That on its own would be a great relief. Feeling torn though about that plan. I feel disappointed that we would have to downsize but blessed that we are still ok and will still have a roof over our heads. Thoughts?

My thoughts are if you feel you will be struggling for money on top off coping with an illness then downsize. You will get used to a smaller living space, and you will just be glad you can live comfortably and have your family around you. Materialistic things don't matter, what matters is family and spending quality stress free time with them.

Sending loads of hugs.
My thoughts: don't make any firm plans yet. By all means think through possibilities but don't make any firm decisions yet. Just enjoy the time you have now in your new house and consider what you will do in the future further down the line.
