I can't for the life of me see how it matters. We never used to have 'bases' when I was a youngster. You had a snog, a handful of tit, a stroke of the inner thigh, and if you'd got that far you were vitually home and dry unless she upped and legged it in the meantime.

 First base is kissing or french kissing,
second is touching/fondling,
third base is something in between fondling and sexual intercourse, oral sex would probably fall under third place or hand jobs etc.
fourth base is the homerun, as in - all the way. So, this would mean full sexual intercourse.
I'm not sure if this is right, but it's the way I interpret it. People throw these terms around to the point where no one is sure what they actually mean anyway, i didn't even think people still used them! lol. Makes me feel old and i'm only 17. Anyway. I hope this helped.
