Its difficult but doable. I dated a Christian and I am Muslim. We were to be married and discussed the issues. Like KellyO stated: We respected eachother's view and if we are to have children we will give them the knowledge to make a decision based on what they know and what they like. It was a very healthy relationship.

I think it can be healthy depending on how each partner handles the situation. My mum's close friend is actually married to a someone of a different religion. They respect each other views.When children became involve then they allowed them the freedom of choice to choose which of the religion to follow themselves.
