Is it possible there is still something between me and my ex, or am I thinking too much into it?

Me and my ex have been broken up for several months but still reamained friends, we had decided that we lost our relationship so why lose a friend as well. Over time we both started seeing other people but at one point we started talking about the good times we had together and he still checks up on how I'm doing and stuff when he runs into one of my friends. Is it possible there is still something there? Neither of us really wanted the break up but at the time it was inavoidable. Am I mixing my signals or am I picking up on something more?
