writes: this is a long one but i really need some advice. my fiance and i have been together for about a year and a half now. niether one of us have been with anyone else as we both believe in being completely faithful. but i tend to get these yeast infections that no matter what i try and use, they clear up for a bit but always come back. i have been to different doctors and chemists and i get told different things. i have had a lot of surgery's so my immunity isnt that great. and i recently found out i have gum disease that will actually poison the blood over time with bacteria, so there are a few reasons why i constantly get yeast infections. anyway. my fiance has never caught it from me until this time. his penis is red and swolen and slightly itchy and irritated. little bit of white stuff under the forskin that rubs off. but he is freaking out and thinks i gave him some kind of std. not sure what to do. is it possible that i caught an std years ago and wouldnt know it? wouldnt he have caught it from me sooner? do you think that just because my yeast infections are getting worse that his immunity is breaking down to them now? any advice would be extremely helpful as i love this man and dont want him to think that i am unfaithful. thank you

reader, anonymous, writes (18 June 2008): This is verified as being by the original poster of the questionthank you for your advice. i went to the chemist again today and he said that the creams probably arent working because it is a bacterial yeast not a fungal yeast. i guess we need to just go see the doc. thanks

Well, I did a little search (www.medicinenet.com) and he does have a disease: a yeast infection. So do you. I recommend that you see a doctor with your fiancé, and the explanation he will give will make him understand that you have been faithful.
I understand that yeast is always present in human skin, but the body is able to control it. Some situations, like immunosuppresion, might affect that balance and give you the infection. Under ordinary circumstances, a man wouldn't get yeast from his partner, because it would be under control. But, in your case, your yeast was not controlled and that is how he got it.
You have to consult a doctor and get treated.
If you do explain this to him, he should understand.
