A female reader, anonymous, writes (21 October 2006):

When I was 20, I dated a 28 yr old guy. It lasted 8 months.

He proposed, I got scared. He wanted to get married. I was just getting started. When you date someone older, there are things to think about. The guy I dated had been engaged before, and had also lived with someone.

The age difference didnt bother me except when it came to going to places, he had to make sure that I can get in, since I wasn't not 21 yet. Also, when you go places with him, since he's older, you will most likely be the youngest one in the "group" and that as you will find out, becomes awkward.

As long as you're 16 or over, then really it's your choice. It's only really wrong when one of the couple is underage and then it would be classed as paedophillic. Hope this helps.

Cool Cucumber agony auntYes, as long as you are not a minor. I don't think age matters too much, if you get on and like him then go for it, it's only 8 not 80 years difference...!!! In fact sometimes it is better to date an older man as generally they mature later then us girls...but you do find the odd guy who is very mature at their age. All depends on the person and whether you are comfortable with them. Good luck!! x
