 I don't think it's weird at all to message him. What's weirder to me is that you have someone on snapchat or instagram who you've never spoken with, yet continue to like each others posts.
Just message him! It's not weird at all. Just say hey and say you thought you'd finally break the ice and chat. Don't over-think it. Just make basic conversation.
