Is it not normal to mention an absent partner as a way to put off unwanted attention?

Question - (4 October 2009) 1 Answers - (Newest, 4 October 2009)
A female United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I have been in a long distance relationship for 2 years now. Last night, my boyfriend called me, drunk, after attending a wedding.

He told me I should be proud of him as he had been sitting next to a hot woman who had been hitting on him all night and he hadn't done anything.

I asked if he'd mentioned me, and he said that it "had never come up"

Is it not normal to mention an absent partner as a way to put off unwanted attention?

I feel upset and confused, partly because i don't think not doing anything with the hottie warrants a pat on the back and also because i dont understand why he didn't simply mention he had a girlfriend. Also the number of times he repeated the words hot during our conversation made me feel really bad about myself.

am i over-reacting :(

This could be a sign that your relationship is starting to crumble. To use the word 'hot' over and over again is a good indication. I suggest you two get talking about this relationship.
