So_Very_Confused agony auntI used to be so sick when I was a teen with my period.

I had bad nausea and vomiting and also cramps and crying jags and terrible diarrhea. I used to miss school every month. It was dreadful. It did get better later on down the road.

They put me on BC pills at 14 to help the periods. I also got pain meds. of course this was nearly 40 years ago so I don't know what kinds of pain meds they give now.

Talk to the doctor about it.

Honeypie agony auntSome women do and some don't. I would ask your Mom if I were you. It may not be a topic you "want" to discuss with her, but it's quite common to follow the same "pattern" with pain, migraines, bloating, fatigue and so forth as your Mom.

I'm not sure if Birth control can help you, yet. But I would talk to your mom about the pain and then get a doctors appointment.

Pemperin and Midol might also help you, but again TALK to a doctor first.

Some studies indicate that Vitamin E, thiamine and Omega-3 supplements may reduce menstrual cramps. Zinc and calcium have been found to reduce cramps, bloating and related PMS symptoms. Calcium and magnesium reduce muscle soreness, but must be taken for 2-3 months every day before producing a noticeable effect.

Simple aspirin or acetaminophen can help a lot for the pain.

Walk around the neighborhood, run on the treadmill, go ride your bike, or any other exercises you enjoy. This will increase blood flow which will help the cramps go away.

Would birth control help with this?

dmartin89 agony auntYes, I get very nauseaous around my TOTM. It's because your hormone levels are increased, its totally normal.

Drink plenty of water and chew on some dry crackers. Pressure point bands may also help.

A female reader, Dear Mandy United Kingdom +, writes (10 May 2011):

Dear Mandy agony auntHi

This is very common, and quite normal in many women to feel sick, headaches, back pain, stomach cramps, and in some cases upset bowel movments, how ever are you sexual active? If you have been with a boy you need to make sure its because your NOT pregnant,as sometimes when pregnant you can still have periods.at such a young age you would not want to be a mother, and there is many options for you to take if you are. If you think you may be is there someone close you can talk to? maybe a teacher or relative? If not then you are perfectly normal like the rest of us girls/women and should ask your mother or father if the Dr can prescribe an anti-sickness tablet for you, this does help.

I hope this has helped
