To maintain good health "downstairs" you should try to use something without fragrance, because scented soaps can cause a yeast infection.

reader, anonymous, writes (6 March 2011): you should wash your hair very regularly even during your period. I cannot feel right unless my hair is washed every other day.And i have often gone outside to dry my hair outside in the sun and never caught a cold doing so (another lie that should be debunked. that washing hair gives you a cold = not true)I love baths. Often, although I have a shower in the morning - if I have time i love a scented bath at night before bed as it relaxes me. In summer i have 2 showers each day. And i like to soap myself all over. Rinse. Then soap myself again, especially under arms and pubic area a second time, then rinse again. And then apply a very body light moisturiser. And having my period would never stop me having a bath. If i book a hotel for a holiday that's my first question. 'do your rooms come with a bath?' answer 'no' and my reply is, 'thank you, but i will not be making a booking'I have to wonder who and why made up so many lies about menstruation? You will not smell nice if you do not wash thoroughly during your period. When you are menstrating it is even more important that you wash your hair every second day. Also wash everywhere else, on your body, twice every day during your period. And I happily swim in the pool (with a tampon in of course) during my period. There is nothing a woman cannot do, though she may be a little uncomfortable trying to run a marathon during her periodAnd just to eliminate pregnancy superstitions:With absolutely NO bad side effects i have happily gone swimming in a pool and in the ocean during prenancy.Washed my hair throughout pregnancyhad baths regularly and happily throughout pregnancyAnd enjoyed sexual relations with my husband through pregnancy. My older female Aunties have confirmed that they have done the same and none of them have arthritis.I think eventually it may be discovered that arthritis may be caused by an inherited gene or maybe even by a virus in some instances, not by hair washing.Do not listen to ignorant old wives tales and lies made up by people to scare you and control you.

You need to wash your hair more during your period as the hormones cause it to become more greasy
