Is it an attitude thing for me?

Question - (1 December 2008) 2 Answers - (Newest, 1 December 2008)
A male United States age 30-35, *obro writes:

I as I have mentioned am very overweight. But everyone thinks I am great otherwise. Kind, thoughtful, warm hearted intelligent.

I am working on losing weight. And it is going ok. Yes there are ups and downs and sometimes dead stops but on the whole my attitude is better.

One thing that gets me is that I see other overweight people or ones not blessed with good looks to put it politely being part of couple. Even ones the same age as me. Is it an attitude thing for me? Is it my self consciousness due to my weight that show and affects things more than being overweight in itself?

Ed1337 agony auntI think your attitude towards life is far more important than how heavy or slim you are. I know some really overweight people who have amazing girl friends, because they are fun to be with and they don't let their weight take control of their life.

If your weight is a problem for you, just keep working on it until you feel great about yourself. One of my mates was huge at college and everyone took the P out of him, he decided to stop drinking beer and the weight just fell off him, he also started playing a lot of sports, so never give up and just keep doing what your doing now, a lot of people tend to give up.

Asked Angel agony auntIf you do some research into people who have lost drastic amounts of weight you may see it's not always all about weight issues.

Alot of people blame everything that's wrong in their life's on weight, lose the weight and lose the problems right?

This is not awlays the case, some people soon relise that weight is not there only issue.

I am not saying don't lose weight it's unhealthy to be over weight.

But being over weight myself i have relised i can't blame everything that is going on in my life on weight because as i started to lose weight my other problem's issues did NOT dissapear.

For me i had to work on losing weight and how i feel about myself and my body.

The cause of my overeating is not likeing myself and untill i can get over that i cannot lose weight and keep it off.

I hope this helps.
