My girlfriend keeps getting a water infection. I know its very common and easily treatable but i was wondering if it had anything to do with me.

She first got one in december shortly after we started having regular sex. This was cleared quickly and we carried on. We then didnt have sex for a few weeks, had it on firday and all of a sudden she has another one.

I thought this may have been coincidence but then once she was feeling better i.e. yesterday....we did it again and suddenly her stomach is bad today.

Is her water infection problems due to me somehow? or that the sex is causing it?

Im just worried for her. So, any help would be great.

thanks

Hi there- so funny, haven't had one in years but Im off work today because i have a water infection :) Water infections are Extremerly common in girls, and yes, unfortunately, they can be caused by sex. Also stress and dehydration can cause them too. It helps, tell her to pee straight away after sex, that will flush out the bacteria quickly so it won't have time to give her an infection. Is she on antibiotics at the moment? Tell her to pop to the doc if not, otherwise drinking lots of water, taking some painkillers and not having sex until the infection clears up is the best advice i can give (and wish someone gave me when i first got them.) Just because she got one this time doesn't mean she always will, but if she starts getting them more tell her to take cranberry tablets (get them from a local chemist for around £3) and take one everyday- that should help ward the infections off. Don't have sex until it goes away, don't drink any alcohol either- otherwise it will take a longer to clear up.

You can't catch it, and don't worry, you haven't given it to her, but sex can sometimes cause it or make it worse if you already have one. Some people get them a lot, some never, some once and never again, but if she has any issues and wants help dealing them, get in touch. Hope she feeling alright :)

Honeygirl agony auntHun, your gf should also increase her intake of water and also after sex she should urinate. This will help to flush out any bacteria that might have made their way up her urethra.

I would also suggest she have a check up to rule out any other medical problem which might be causing these infections.

It might be difficult to tell her this, but cystitis is very common in sexually active women. The best way to stop it is to make her go to the bathroom and pass water straight after sex.

It's possible. She should see a doctor, and make sure your hygiene is tip top.
