chigirl agony auntIt doesnt seem fishy to me at all. We can speculate all we want, and maybe a pop up in our minds ruin a game just as much, but maybe not to him. If I was to believe my guy was up to something fishy every time he didn't make sense, I wouldn't have had time for anything but snooping around and making myself exhausted.

Things don't always work as we sit and plot them. Perhaps reality is just that: he find the sound annoying and ruining his game, and maybe he gets a pop up and maybe he doesn't?? I don't get pop ups on my phone, just a blinking light.... And maybe he just doesn't mind that. But minds the noise. Maybe he checked your message after he was done with his business...

Oh what was he suppose to be doing with the phone in the bathroom anyways, have an affair??? How charming for his mistress to only get calls when he's doing his number 2.

Just a thought here... Him setting his phone on silent would only stop the noise, it wouldn't stop the actual pop-up.. So it would still "ruin" his game. A lot of guys do take things like phones, ipods, games, etc to pass the time in there, so if it was just that I wouldn't doubt it but...

I don't think there's a way to turn off message retrieval altogether, just sounds.. And how would a sound ruin a game any more than a popup saying you had a message would? And if he had them off, how would he knew he recieved a message and your question? This seems verryyy fishy to me.

chigirl agony auntI often wish I had the phone with me to play sudoku's on when I end up taking longer in there than planned. Hence why people often keep magazines in the loo. My bet is he takes the phone with to play games when he takes a shit.

Would you have heard it go off if it was on vibrate? Really? I don't think so. After all he holds it in his hand I would assume, that effectively kills the vibe.

And some people perfect the loo business to not make sounds.. like I do. So that in case someone is lurking outside the door they wont hear anything embarrassing.

I dont get the problem?

He took his phone to the loo, you texted him but didnt hear it beep, so therefore he must be doing something terribly wrong?

Why does this amount to doing something wrong? Were you camped outside the door to hear the phone ring?

Generally when you play games text sounds/vibrations are turned off automatically so that they do not interfere with the game. Even if you play scrabble or something utterly harmless the text signals are overruled by the game. It is only when you stop that you see a message has come in. Similar to if you were talking on the phone and you got a text - would it still beep and vibrate?

Give the guy a break, and a bit of privacy. Why could you not just wait until he was out of the toilet and then ask him the question, or even go and look for your watch yourself?

If you were within earshot of the phone you would have been within knocking distance of the door. go figure.

Oh. my. god. phones are different. just because your phone does something and you've experimented to that effect, does not mean his will. And if you know the minor pointless technicalities of his phone following this incident. please get help. paranoia much? what do you think he's doing? phone cheating on you? seriously.

He's probably wankking. men tend to do that. shock, horror.

bwee123 agony auntOkay this may seem completely out there and don't get me wrong, but have you ever considered he was maybe jacking off or taking a shit? Sometimes you do need silence for those things.

I wouldn't think much of it at all... unless there are other suspicious activities involving the phone.

shapoopsy agony auntHi Angelwithwings!

This could go either way. He could be texting other girls and going into the bathroom for privacy, or he could just be playing games on his phone while doing his business. Either way, the bathroom is one place you are probably not welcome. It's considered private and that's why he shuts the door behind him. Testing him while he's on the pot would be very annoying to an innocent guy. Just keep an eye on him. Time will tell. ~Shapoopsy

A female reader, TashaRamsden United Kingdom +, writes (4 September 2010):

This is a difficult one to answer! Men nowadays generally do take their phones to the loo to play on their phone as it does 'pass the time' so to speak, however taking the trouble to put their phone on silent for 5 minutes is quite a thought out process. It really depends on what kind of games he plays - if it is an online ranking game, and he is really serious about his scores then yes probably - as a text coming through could very well ruin his score! Assuming that he is cheating on you at this point is quite extreme, however looking into what games he plays may be a way of doing a bit more investigating! One thing I would say though, if he was really playing games on his phone - how did he get your text? Because surely he would have been concentrating?

Maybe you can ask him about the game and ask if you can have a go? See what he says, and just keep a watchful eye on him for the moment and try not to worry yet, I hope this helps x

CharmedCupid agony auntWell, let's not jump to conclusions, you need to watch out for the signs, this si going to sound rather mean but I think it's precautionary. When he's off for a shower,or sleeping and your up,see if you can get his phone, look thorugh his messages and have a peek, remember, there is a SENT box AND an INBOX so read both,if there arent any messages then don't start panicing yet!!

Use that method and see what happens xx

You sound like you don't trust him. Why do you think he would be lying about this? Has he already done something to make you suspicious?
