He has now said he can't move in until his children (living with his ex-wife) have settled in their new home quite a way away from where he lives. Question is, is he likely to leave me to be with his children? We argue most of the time now. Please help?

There is a place for each of us - Home.
I speak about the widest meaning of it.
People who do not understand it - they are traveling in life.
For them Life is a journey and they sail looking for a haven.
Sounds like you have different sense of it than your partner.
You ask: "is he likely to leave me to be with his children?"
Instead you should ask: "Where is my Home and where is his?"
