He was really depressed a few days ago becuse he asked someone out and they said no and i spent along time comforting him via txt. I eventually got a reply saying luv (his name) xxx. I really fancy him and would love to go out with him but i'm not sure whether i should ask him out because i don't know if he sent that as "just a friend" or if he was suggesting we get together. I don't want to lose him as a friend for assuming the wrong thing! What can i do?

Firstly don't read too much into the "xxx" they are far too overused. Why don't you drop him a text something safe and simple like "still haven't got her to go out with you?? sure what the hell I'll go out with you if your that badly stuck ;)" from this you can see his responce and its completely safe as there is no such thing as a bad reply to it. Give it a try and let me know, gudluk latrzz

Hey,
loads of people get into your position. And many regret either taking the risk or not. There is only one way to find out! I'd take the risk - love wouldn't be love if we didn't! Why don't you ask him out? If he says no, he says no and you'll find some way to laugh about it later! If you are such good friends that he is putting "luv" and "xxx" then even if he wasn't suggesting you go out, it means you're pretty close friends and one mistake isn't likely to break a friendship so deep and obviously meaningful to bpth of you!
Hope this helped,
Phoebe
